Ditto with Sonic where whether his best voice actor is Ryan Drummond, Roger Craig Smith, Jason Griffith, or Deven Mack is debated on as well as Knuckles where it varies between Scott Drier and Dan Green (heck, Idris Elba is also up there now as contender for best Knuckles voice by fans) not helped by Dave B Mitchell not leaving a good first impression in Team Sonic Racing. In comparison, who the best Shadow voice is isn't nearly as unanimous with debates between it being David Humphrey, Jason Griffith, or Ian Hanlin (but Kirk's never been seen as the best Shadow by anyone). Sure Colleen returned as Tails, but it's a lot more unanimous on her being seen as the best Tails voice (with Jeff Fowler himself stating he couldn't think of anyone better than her). In fact, he's been one of the most disliked castings among the Studiopolis so I doubt that's gonna inspire the creative team behind the movies to get him back. Kirk's Shadow isn't exactly a popular casting choice to begin with. The only reason I semi-want him not to is because I think Keanu Reeves voicing Shadow would be un-toppable, but I definitely have nothing against Jason, I think he's a good VA. So, there.Īnd at the end of the day, if Jason Griffith does end up being the voice of Shadow in Sonic Movie 3 despite all of this, you know what? Good for him. And maybe that reason rhymes with Reanu Keeves.Īlso, everything I explained was completely pointless, because during the KCC Comic Con of May 2022, the writers confirmed that he'll probably be voiced by a "big movie star". If they're keeping his voice a secret, they probably are for a reason. Also note how Tails spoke in his post-credits scene while Shadow didn't. Therefore, I believe Shadow will be voiced by a celebrity instead of Jason Griffith. So I dont think they casted Colleen to avoid fan backlash, or to let real VAs have a major role in a blockbuster film, it was just because her role was a late addition to the first movie.Īnd unlike that, they were probably planning for Shadow ahead of time, and took time to think about which celebrities they could get to voice him. I believe that, only after they redesigned Sonic, did they realize that they could expand this into a full-fledged SCU, with actual Sonic characters and plot elements, and so the post-credits scene probably never existed until at least early post-production, with the movie's writing not accounting for it.Īnd because of that, since they wouldn't have had time or money to get a Hollywood celebrity to do Tails' voice for that scene, they just got Colleen instead, and let her return from that for Sonic Movie 2 since she technically already voiced movie Tails. You might remember, when the first movie came out and we saw his post-credits scene for the first time, there were people who noted that Tails would've looked like fucking roadkill if they didn't fix the design.īut the thing is, I don't think Tails ever had an "original design." Because, as we all know, the first film was originally intended to be a cashgrab nightmare with no sequels, no cinematic universe, no nothing. You see, I believe his post-credits scene in the first movie was an afterthought. On the surface, that seems perfectly logical, but the thing is, I'm pretty sure they only casted her because they didn't have time to get a celebrity. The most common evidence I hear people bring up is the fact that Tails was voiced by Colleen O'Shaughnessy. Now that we got the new key visual on Twitter, and people are once again asking them to let Jason Griffith voice Shadow, I figured I'd explain why I think he won't.
